FAQs ABOUT OUR LAMINATION PROCESS
Q. Can using the heated lamination process affect my document?
A. It depends what you are laminating. We use exclusively low melt films only, but occasionally the ink or paper can be too sensitive for the laminating process, - if in doubt contact us or the ink or paper manufacturers before laminating. We can state that thermal paper (e.g., that stuff you get after you pay way too much at the pump for gas) is unsuitable for any type of laminating involving heated rollers.
Q, What is mil?
A. Mil is the industry standard term for thickness of lamination film. Typical thickness in the industry is 1.5, 3, 5, 7, or 10 mil. 1.5 being the thinnest and 10 being the thickest. Check our Services Available page to see what we recommend for some products.
What is a standard mil to use?
Standard mils are 3, 5, 7, 10. Our standard mil is 3 mil and we use both glossy and matte finishes. The latter are best for trade-show posters where glare due to powerful lighting sources is a problem.
Q. What are the benefits to laminating?
A. Lamination is a great option when you want to keep your products in excellent condition for as long as possible. Whether its a priceless photograph or a child's artwork, laminating leaves these keepsakes durable, waterproof and air tight.
Q. What is the difference between a sealed edge vs. flush trimmed edge?
A. A sealed edge is when the laminate is sealed together leaving a small border of film around the edge. A flush trimmed edge is when the laminate is trimmed flush against the edge of the product leaving no border. The laminate is flush against the edge, however, the product is not completely surrounded by film.
Q. What measure should be taken in the proper hanging of a laminated poster.
A.. If you need to laminate a poster for pinning up outside the "seal" is broken when you push the pins through the plastic-paper-plastic sandwich. If the poster has to be there for any length of time and it is damp or rains water can get in and spoil the look of the poster.
If you leave enough space in the corners to of the paper then cut them off, about 2cm, 3/4inch, along each side BEFORE laminating there is a clear "fixing" area in the corners that will not allow water to get to the paper.
